While traditional dams generate electricity from the potential energy, one application for Lucid systems is in capturing the tremendous amount of kinetic energy in the tailings of existing dams.

Accessibility 
One of the prime benefits of tying into an existing dam system is that access to an electrical grid is readily available. The GHT enhances the system without adding extensive additional infrastructure.
 
Maximized efficiency 
Depending on the size of an installation it is possible to boost the output of these dams by as much as 5-10% utilizing the water that has already been used to generate electricity. Additionally, the GHT's unique design makes it an ideal technology for this purpose.  By installing an array of GHT's in a dam's tailrace, Lucid's systems can efficiently capture a large portion of this flow.  The GHT's unidirectional rotation make it an ideal candidate for use in the turbulent conditions normally found at these sites.
